Naava is a Finnish nature technology company, offering unique green wall and indoor air purification solutions. Situated in the heart of Helsinki, Naava’s space functions both as an office and showroom It is a masterpiece of biophilic and human-centric design, offering immersive natural experiences for both visitors and Naava’s team. The space combines natural elements and innovative design, including Taiga’s Picea booths that provide an opportunity for calmness and privacy.
Naava’s mission is to bring the power of nature indoors. The design of their office and showroom serves as a direct reflection of this mission, striving to craft a space that is profoundly human-centered and natural. Eeva Niemelä as the Head of Customer Experience & Service Design was closely involved in creating this health-promoting space:
‘We wanted to create an immersive space, that is as human-friendly and natural as possible The space provides a visually aesthetic, nature-inspired multisensory experience where people can feel good’, Niemelä describes.
According to Niemelä, every zone and element was carefully curated with nature in mind. While functioning as an important showcase for Naava products, the space doubles as a practical office environment tailored to meet the real needs of a modern work environment. With the help of Taiga’s workspace solution, Lohko Picea, Naava was able to bring more privacy to the open space:
‘Described as a ‘nature path’, our showroom demonstration takes our visitors through the various activity zones. Taiga’s soundproof workspaces resemble the Finnish forest and its calmness, offering an important hideout spot where people can relax. It’s one of the highlights of the showroom presentation, but also an important area in our functional office,’ Niemelä explains.
The compact Lohko Picea not only enables a calm work environment but also increases the natural feel of the space, particularly as Naava opted for a natural veneer and light tone for upholstery.
‘This particular size was a perfect fit for our layout. We chose harmonious colors according to our color palette. We didn’t have many wooden elements, so it was important for us to choose a natural veneer color. We concluded the natural Ash had the most beautiful, Scandinavian feel to it.’ Niemelä explains.
Three Lohko Picea booths are placed side by side at Naava. They are used mostly on an ad-hoc basis. Two of them can also be reserved, in case they’re needed for longer meetings or important focused work.
‘The booths are in use almost all the time. This is because workers have to take many phone calls, or attend team meetings where space for privacy and focus is required,’ Niemelä says.
Naava opted to furnish the Picea as a one-person workspace, with an airy table, chair, and a small Naava green wall. This has allowed for an exceptionally comfortable work experience for one, and sometimes even two people:
‘We feel like the size, for us, is very convenient. They’re not just phone booths, but appropriate personal workstations for even long work sessions. If needed, they can also facilitate two people attending a video conference or even having short one-on-one meetings,‘ Niemelä says.
Naava has a hybrid work model, offering the flexibility for individuals to choose between working from home or the office. Taiga’s Picea workspaces have emerged as an important asset in the flexible model. The adaptability of the office, combined with a strong team culture, has led to a preference for office-based work.
‘During a workday, there’s a possibility to move around based on the task. For example, you can start the day in the silence of a Taiga booth working on focused tasks, and later on move into a more collaborative area,’ Niemelä explains.
‘We want to encourage people to use the different environments during the day. However, sometimes it’s easy to get absorbed into the Taiga booth, as it feels so comfortable and human-friendly, especially in combination with our green wall.’
